Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Berlin

4.5
Originally opened in 1895, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church today stands as a memorial to the destruction of World War II. This historic chapel was damaged--then almost completely eliminated--by bombings in 1943 and 1945. The remaining Romanesque architecture is in the steeple, which no longer has a pointed roof. The ground floor's memorial hall honors war victims. The people of Berlin preserved the ruins within the monument to represent the rebirth and resilience of postwar Berlin. • The visit is worth it. Church is beautiful both day and night. The night we visited had an opera that was beautiful we paid a nice price to watch and my 5-year-old son was free, we bought it on time. It's close to the subway.

  • A little gem hidden in the heart of the bustling city of Berlin. A short walk from the zoo and the metro stop of zoologischer garten is this wonderful church of which unfortunately today due to the war remain are small pieces. The ancient and original part is completely decorated with spectacular mosaics, while the modern part is really special for its blue views. Both entrances are free.

  • A must see! I would encourage you to take the time and read the story of the life of this church. The material gave me a fresh point of view as to the impetus of what was to develop in Germany. The building is as beautiful as it is tragic. Admission is free! We also had the privilege to enjoy an evening with the Berlin Orchestra in the modern church next door. A lovely night.
  • This church is separated in two parts. The first being the actual church where you can see the original works and mosaics. The second building I almost ignored it, but thank goodness I stumbled in. Such beautiful blue stained glass windows which have an unusual effect inside the space. Completely different to a 'typical' church!
