Shop at numerous local stores selling clothing, art, and jewelry from Icelandic designers at Laugavegur, one of the oldest shopping streets in the city. The street leads to hot springs where city women once took their laundry--hence the name "wash road." The street is also home to many cafes, bars, nightclubs, and restaurants. Keep an eye out for interesting street art, too. Note that this is one of Reykjavik's more expensive shopping areas. Use our Reykjavik day trip planner to add Laugavegur and other attractions to your Reykjavik vacation plans.

My sister and I walked along this street everyday, be it for coffee or food. I don't think you can avoid it whilst on the trip more »

Laugavegur was a short walk from our hotel and we spent so much time wandering the street. So many shops, restaurants and bars. We absolutely loved the street art! more »
