Take a tour of Shugakuin Imperial Villa, a set of three villas and associated gardens owned by the imperial family. Built between 1655 and 1659 by Emperor Gomizuno, the complex features three main buildings, all showcasing different aspects of traditional Japanese imperial architecture, including dark wood facades, sliding doors, elevated tatami mats, and painted wall panels. The sprawling park that surrounds boasts plentiful natural sights: waterfalls, woods, and ponds, as well as enclosed areas made into fine examples of traditional Japanese gardens. Though entry to the buildings is not allowed, many remain open so visitors can see inside as part of the tour. Shugakuin Imperial Villa Reviews
３つの... more »In the middle of September, I went to Kyoto for the first time in ten years on business. When I decided on my schedule, I booked it immediately at the facility of the Imperial Household Agency which had been difficult until then. The bus from the work place was delayed by 15 minutes on the day, and it was in time for the last minute meeting time by running from the bus stop. It's 3 p.m., but as the others touch, it's better to give up and down a lot of slopes, so if your legs are weak, you'd better give up. In addition, drinking water and avoiding sunlight are essential because it was still close to 30 degrees. Each of the three tea houses has its own personality, and the former Japanese countryside between them is also an outstanding interlude (it was just the season of rice harvesting). During my stay in the UK about 15 years ago, I visited several famous landscape gardens and was surprised by the audacity of the charm, grandeur and ideas, but I was also impressed by the beauty that led to it in Japan. The guide had mentioned charles diana's visit several times, but i'm sure they were surprised. It knew that the site was acquired for the view to the city from not only the site of this palace but also the rice field in surroundings, the surrounding hills, and the kamigochaya to the city, and the Imperial Household Agency was making an effort to the building restriction. The season of autumn leaves may be the best, but if not, you should be able to enjoy each season enough (but in midsummer, it's better to avoid the meteorite).
この修学院離宮は後水尾上皇が比叡山の麓に造営した離宮で、田園風景を取り入れ、実際... more »In accordance with the visit of Katsura Rikyu, we were also really lucky to have been elected to the Imperial Household Agency on the internet in advance, and to win the katsura imperial palace and the season of autumn leaves in November every day. At first, we had planned a subway and walking route from the Gojo hotel, but the back office investigated that it was able to go to the rikyu road by city bus number 5 by one, so we changed the route. Still, i walked there, but arrived ten minutes before the reception. This shugakuin imperial palace is a detached palace that Empress Gomizuoe built at the foot of Mt. Hiei, and it seems that the farm life is actually grown in the field and the rice field, etc. by taking in the country scenery. The vast site is divided into three parts: Shimoritogu, Nakarikyu, and Kamirikyu, each of which has its own distinctive buildings and gardens. It is far more vast than the Katsura Imperial Palace which I visited yesterday. The autumn leaves hunting in the vast garden which took in the view of the foot of Hiei was the best.) However, the foreigner who had bad manners noticed.
Every detail in this Imperial garden was so perfect that I felt some dizziness. Too much, isn’t it? Every corner, even single tiny stone, and glass and moth seemed to be calculated. All these efforts make me feel mixedly the laborious work of labors. Anyway, sturdiness of Imperial properties I saw, even though the builder insisted to design the garden humbly.
A large Japanese Loyal Family's summer palace complex with typical but well-arranged landscape and gardens.
