Trip Planner: Europe / Romania / Southeast Romania / Tulcea County / Tulcea / Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve
Take a boat ride and explore the maze of canals and lakes with floating reed islands on Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve. The region, which also boasts forests, meadows, and sand dunes, is home to wildcats, wolves, foxes, boars, and deer. You'll also find nearly 300 species of birds here, including Egyptian white pelicans, Arctic geese, pygmy cormorants, and white-tailed eagles. The area includes a few scattered villages on the shores, including Chilia Veche--an ancient Greek settlement and the site of a battle between the forces of Vlad the Impaler and of Mahomed II, the conqueror of Constantinople. Start your excursion at the village of Tulcea, at the end of the three channels. Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Reviews
Our trip lasted about 3 hours which was too long. The weather was poor and we were cold and we saw very few of the birds we were told to expect. Probably better earlier in the year. more »
We had a great day! We saw a lot of wild waterbirds, visited the worlds most northern troical forest with old oaks and wild hoses. The captain and guide on the boat were very helpful, explained alot..... more »
Really nice and quiet place, where you can enjoy a simpler life. The delta is full of birds, and you actually can watch them since they are used to people and boats. Of course, they'll leave if you get too close, but they are so many that you'll have many chances to watch them. There are a lot of fishermen around so if you enjoy fishing, you can catch your own dinner. You need permits to enter the area, probably you also need one for fishing - we paid for a boat tour that took care of everything, so I have no info about it, sorry :(
A virgin piece of nature, where you can get back to the roots of yourself, throughout the quiet and mysterious waters. The perfect gift for those who want a "Real Holiday" because of the unique experience!
