Wat Saket, Bangkok

4.5
Visit Wat Saket, a hilltop Buddhist temple complex that has undergone several regal renovations over the years. In the 19th century, King Rama III tried to build an enormous chedi atop an artificial hill, only to find the soil was too soft to support its weight. His son had better luck with a more modest design, but it was King Rama V who completed the main complex standing today. The gold chedi juts out to cut an impressive silhouette atop the hill. Reaching the site involves climbing up 300 steps, so you may want to avoid the hottest time of day if possible. The views from the top--and the photos you'll take home with you--make the expenditure of energy more than worth it. • This temple is relatively close to Khao San Road and the SION district. It is possible to see, for example, the complex of the Grand Palace. On the outside you read the story, can use the toilets (free) and even sit on stools with fans over the head (relief), buy something in the souvenir shop. To enter you pay 50 bath and need to be with the proper clothes (knees, shoulders, back and belly covered), otherwise you will need to lease clothes (costs 50 bath the rent plus 100 of deposit). Everything is beautiful, clean and well cared for. There is a place near the exit where there are explanations about the cholera epidemic in Thailand and about the giant vultures that will stand there, on top of this hill (which is artificial, man-made) looking for dead humans, quite interesting, even has statues in size Real of them. If you can go around 17h, read everything down there, climb, beat all the Bells (can), climb over and see the beautiful dusk from up there. We liked it so much that we went there twice. It's unmissable.

  • Just before the evening, I usually come early in the morning while walking up the Golden Mountain, praying in the voice of the stream. The evening here is pretty beautiful. When you walk down to the beautiful Golden Mountain, walk below. Cold drinks are tired.

  • A rare space of sanity in the centre of Bangkok. It's a spiritual place full of Buddhist history and dramatic views of the city from the peak 100 metres above street level. Be warned, you have to walk the steps to the top and down again; there is no lift or elevator, biting you're up for the exercise it shouldn't be missed and entry is only 50 baht. It really is worth visiting if you have the time. And if you don't, make the time!
  • Night is probably the best times to visit this place. From a height of 58 meters offers panoramic views of the lights of Bangkok with beautiful temples around. The place takes you above noisy hot land to a quiet place with a cool breeze.
