Xinbei, also known as New Taipei City, stands as a newly founded part of the wider Taipei metropolitan area, stretching up from the capital to the island's northern coast.

Nantou

Nantou provides good access to the cultural and natural sites of the surrounding county of the same name.
Start off your visit on the 3rd (Tue): visit Rainbow Village Taichung and then explore the activities along Sun Moon Lake. Keep things going the next day: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Hehuan Mountain (Hehuanshan) and then relax in the rural setting at Cingjing Veterans Farm.

Drive from New Taipei to Nantou in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and bus; or take a bus. In December, daily temperatures in Nantou can reach 24°C, while at night they dip to 15°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Wed) so you can travel to Hualien.

Nestled between the sea and the mountains, Hualien boasts a number of attractions, both natural and manmade.
On the 5th (Thu), head outdoors with Yanzihkou Trail (Swallow Grotto), then hike along Taroko Gorge, and then kick back and relax at Chishingtan Scenic Area. Keep things going the next day: get outside with Bai Bao Xi.
