Fort Wetherill State Park is a public recreation area occupying 61.5 acres (24.9 ha) at the southeastern tip of Conanicut Island in the town of Jamestown, Rhode Island. The state park sits on the East Passage of Narragansett Bay opposite Fort Adams State Park. From 1901 through World War II, Fort Wetherill and Fort Adams were part of a string of coastal defenses designed to protect the bay's entrance points. The Fort Wetherill battery and training camp were acquired by the State of Rhode Island from the United States in 1972. The park is used for sightseeing, scuba diving, picnicking, boating, fishing, and hiking.Ask Inspirock to suggest an itinerary and make planning a trip to Jamestown fast, fun, and easy.
Fort Wetherill State Park reviews
The grounds are beautiful but the graffiti forts were creepy. I felt like I was in an unwanted area. The inside of the forts were dark and wet and I wasn’t sure if it was urine or rain water or both..... more »

Amazing place to visit. Many trails leading to different cliff overlooks of the ocean. Certain cliffs you can jump off of into the water (scout the water for rocks first!) Incredible old war bunkers covered in some decent graffiti. There are bunkers in multiple locations so scout out them all! Pretty awesome that it was 100 degrees F out and we walked into a wide open bunker that felt like 68 degrees F. My friend said that was from the spirits in there.
This could be a great place to visit. Unfortunately, people use it as a trashcan. This is unfortunate and sad. This is why we can't have nice things. If people would treat the outdoors with respect and dignity this world would be a great place. If you change your child's diaper don't leave the trash for the next guy. Take it back with you. Also, bring your fishing trash home with you. This is crazy. I would like to visit again and if I do, I will bring gloves and a trash bag and clean it up!
