Admire one of Iceland's most unique natural sites, Kerið. Formed more than six millennia ago, the volcanic crater is about 55 m (180 ft) deep and 270 m (890 ft) across. Look inside and see the aquamarine lake at the bottom, which derives its striking color from minerals in the soil. Most of the crater's moss-covered slopes are steep, but one is gentle enough to descend to the waterline. Take care when walking down, as there are no steps and the ground can be slippery. The crater is close to the road, and there is plenty of space to park nearby. Cool place but winter isn't the time to visit as the colors are masked by snow. It was a nice stop to break up our day so I would certainly recommend it if you are in the area.

This is a cool site but relative to all the really cool stuff in this country, I’d skip it. Easy parking and fast access to the site. You can go around the rim or down to the water.
