The largest building in the city, St. Tryphon Cathedral showcases a classical Romanesque architectural style and holds a collection of priceless artifacts and art pieces. Built in the 12th century, this palace rests on Corinthian columns and pink stone pillars. Its bell towers were rebuilt in the Baroque style after an earthquake, and its rose windows illustrate Gothic-Renaissance motifs. Seek out the lavish interior frescoes from the 14th century, the bas-relief altar screen, and the Romanesque Gothic ciborium--the highlight of the interior decoration. Visit the reliquary chapel to see a 1288 wooden crucifix, and look for St. Tryphon's remains at the site. Hard to believe this church celebrated 850 years in 2016. Quite a testament to all the different cultures and religions that have been here over the years. Beautiful church on a beautiful square.

Very beautiful Catholic church with incredible art and statues. There’s a museum upstairs as well—very cool with ancient artifacts (think 12th century A.D.), paintings, and even relics hidden in cabinets in a chapel closed off by an iron gate. From the upstairs balcony, you can look out over the plaza below.
