Akureyri — 4 nights

Often referred to as Iceland's second city, Akureyri offers an array of cultural attractions in a scenic setting.
Take a break from Akureyri with a short trip to Grjotagja Cave in Reykjahlid, about 1h 10 min away. There's still lots to do: take in the dramatic scenery at Goðafoss Waterfall, head off the coast to Knarrarberg - Yoga & Spa, examine the collection at The Industry Museum, and explore the activities along Lake Myvatn.

Reykjavik to Akureyri is an approximately 3-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. In August in Akureyri, expect temperatures between 16°C during the day and 8°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 1st (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Egilsstadir.
